How OFS is Prepared
Oklahoma Forestry Services is Oklahoma's lead agency
related to wildland fire prevention, protection and use.
Forestry Services:
- conducts initial attack fire suppression on more than six million acres of forests and grasslands with our own highly trained wildland fire crews.
- provides suppression assistance to fire departments and emergency managers located in all 77 counties of Oklahoma
- builds local fire suppression capacity through training, funding, and its Rural Fire Defense Program
- plans and conducts prescribed fires on private, state, and Federal lands to improve their overall health and reduce their risk from catastrophic wildfire
- assists communities in the development of Community Wildfire Protection Plans.
- conducts fire prevention activities including displays at public events, school programs, and Smokey Bear visits.
